Marissa Gelb, MS CCC-SLPMarissa Gelb, MS CCC-SLP is a dedicated Myofunctional Therapist and Speech-Language Pathologist with a passion for helping others achieve optimal health through collaborative, patient-centered care.

Marissa received her bachelor’s degree in Communications from Boston University. After graduation, Marissa worked in the hospitality industry, putting on special events in New York City. In 2018, Marissa decided to explore the healthcare industry by joining her father, Dr. Michael Gelb, at The Gelb Center.

Seeing the transformation and impact airway health has had on patients and their families led Marissa to pursue a career in orofacial myofunctional therapy as her grandmother had done decades before. Myofunctional therapy plays a crucial role in developing proper airway function and health-promoting habits that support long term well-being.

Marissa went on to earn a master’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from New York University. As a third-generation practitioner at The Gelb Center, Marissa believes that the best outcomes result from working with a multidisciplinary team, including fellow healthcare professionals and family members, to ensure comprehensive support for each patient’s unique needs.

Airway health is at the core of Marissa’s practice. Proper breathing patterns are fundamental to physical and mental well-being and impact sleep, cognition, and quality of life. Marissa will identify and treat the underlying causes that may impact function. She treats all age-ranges as early intervention is key, but it is never too late.

Her specialized services include:

• Nasal Breathing Therapy: Helping patients eliminate mouth breathing for improved health and well-being
• Tongue Thrust Therapy: Addressing improper tongue positioning to enhance speech and swallowing
• Oral Habit Elimination: Guiding patients in overcoming habits such as thumb sucking and cheek biting
• Pre-and Post-Frenectomy Care: Providing exercises and support for those undergoing tongue tie, lip tie, or buccal tie releases
• Proper Oral Rest Posture: Helping patients achieve optimal oral rest posture, including tongue placement, lip closure, and jaw alignment
• Swallowing Therapy: Assisting patients in achieving a correct swallow pattern to improve overall oral function and health
